Medewi Surf Spot Guide
Legendary long left-handers, mellow beach breaks, punchy A-frames and uncrowded rights. All the spots we surf with our guests.
Medewi is one of Bali’s most special surf destinations, far from the crowds of Kuta and Canggu, tucked along the quiet west coast. The region is known for its legendary long left-handers, but there’s much more to discover. Below you’ll find all the spots we surf with our guests. Read up before you paddle out.
The breaks we surf
All four work at every level. What changes is the swell.

Medewi Point
Bali’s legendary long left
A must-visit spot for long, dreamy left-handers. This mellow cobblestone point break offers some of Bali’s longest rides, stretching up to 300 meters or more on good days. With a friendly local vibe and stunning coastal scenery, Medewi Point promises an unforgettable surf experience.

Sumbul Beach
Our home break
Just west of Medewi, Yeh Sumbul is a versatile sandy beach break with both lefts and rights. Smaller days are perfect for building confidence; bigger swells deliver hollow, fast waves with barrels, deep bottom turns and sharp carves, all with very few crowds.

The Righthander
Long, fun wave
While Medewi is famous for its long lefts, the Rivermouth offers a fun right-hand point break just nearby. Less crowded than Medewi Point, it’s a great spot to practice right-handers and improve your turning technique.

Pulukan Beach
Punchy A-frame
A playful, semi A-frame wave with long fun rights and lefts on a semi sand-and-rock bottom. Gentle sections are perfect for take-offs, while the open faces give intermediates and advanced surfers space to carve.
… and more secret spots we keep for our guests. Want the full picture? Read our complete Medewi guide, the Yeh Sumbul guide or the Balian Beach guide.

First time in Medewi?
Everything you need to know before you paddle out
Getting Here
Medewi is about 2 hours northwest of Kuta and around 1.5 hours from Canggu. Plan your drive early in the morning to avoid traffic and arrive before the wind picks up.
Best Conditions
Medewi Point works best on S to SW swell with E to NE offshore winds. The ideal tide is mid to high. At low tide the cobblestones are exposed. Early morning almost always offers the cleanest conditions.
What Board to Bring
Medewi Point is a longboarder’s dream. A midlength or longboard (8’+) makes the most of those long, mellow lefts. For Sumbul or Pulukan, a fish or funboard works great too.
Watch Your Feet
The entry at Medewi Point runs over cobblestones and reef, and sea urchins are present. Reef booties are highly recommended, especially at lower tides.
Crowds & Etiquette
Medewi is a local surf community first. Give respect, wait your turn, and don’t snake the lineup. Smile, be patient, and you’ll have a great session.
Best Season
The dry season (April to October) brings the most consistent S to SW swells and clean offshore mornings. Peak surf is May through September; the wet season is quieter but can still produce great waves.
