A safe, fun first wave — and beyond

Our kids surf lessons are a safe, joyful way to introduce your child to the world of surfing. For full safety and faster progress, every child is taught one-on-one and gets their very own surf instructor.

From their first time in the ocean all the way to grom coaching and competition prep — we meet your child exactly where they are.

Why here

Why Medewi is perfect for kids

For kids learning to surf for the first time, we teach at Sumbul Beach — pure sand, shallow water you can stand in, empty and peaceful, perfect for building confidence. Kids with some experience benefit from the long, mellow waves at Medewi Point. Both spots offer small, slow waves and relaxed conditions that give kids all the time they need — no crowds, no stress, no rush. Just good vibes and happy groms.

For parents

Why surfing is good for your child

  • Builds confidence — Catching a wave for the first time is a huge boost. Kids grow braver with every ride.
  • Physical fitness — Surfing works the whole body: balance, coordination, strength and endurance.
  • Ocean connection — They learn to read the sea, respect it and feel at home in it.
  • Ready at age 5+ — If your child is comfortable in the water and can follow simple instructions, they’re ready.
  • No swimming skills needed — We stay in shallow, safe whitewater where your child can always stand up.
  • Screen-free adventure — Pure fun, fresh air and the ocean. No better way to spend a day.

FAQ

What ages do you coach?

We coach groms of all ages, from around 5 up to confident teens. Younger children are welcome too — we’ll just have a quick chat first about their comfort in the water.

Does my child need to know how to swim?

Yes — your child should be comfortable swimming, as lessons take place in the ocean. We always start gently in safe, shallow conditions.

Is it really one-on-one?

Yes. Every child gets their own instructor and full attention, every wave — the safest way to learn.

Can I watch from the beach?

Absolutely. Many parents love watching their child catch that first wave.

What should my child bring?

Just a swimsuit, a towel and some stoke. We provide the board, rash guard and reef-safe sunscreen.

My child has surfed before — can you still help?

Definitely. We coach all levels, from first waves to improving groms — including competition-focused technique coaching.

How long is a lesson?

A short safety briefing on the beach, then time in the water — paced to your child’s energy, never rushed.
